Spice Up The Flavor Of World Cuisine With Stir-frying
[op_liveeditor_element data-style=””][text_block style=”undefined” align=”left”]I grew up eating stir-fried dishes in a traditional Chinese family. My mother is a typical Chinese housewife who cooked authentic Cantonese food. In my mind, stir-frying, boiling and steaming is the whole world of cooking. It was not until after I started working in a restaurant that I realized there are so many different styles of cooking apart from stir-fried I was familiar with.
Twelve years ago, I made a major career shift- from a trained pharmacist to an F&B entrepreneur. Those were the tough days for me as a novice cook without formal training. I frantically looked for inspiration and recipes for the newly launched cafe and absorbed as much culinary knowledge as I could in a very short time.[/text_block][/op_liveeditor_element]
[op_liveeditor_elements][/op_liveeditor_elements]
[op_liveeditor_element data-style=””][text_block style=”undefined” align=”left”]Along the way, I discovered my mother’s favorite cooking style- stir-frying is prevalent in the Chinese community and deeply amalgamated into the culinary culture of many Asian countries. I am fascinated by the stir-fried dishes adorned with local ingredients such as fish sauce, bird’s eye chili, tamarind, lemongrass, sambal, and mirin. These are just the tip of the iceberg of the fascinating list of exotic ingredients unconventional to Chinese cooking. A year ago, I started following food bloggers’ posts around the world, looking for ideas and inspiration to create some special stir-fried dishes, and was surprised to find out that stir-frying has permeated into the culinary art of every corner of the world. The deeper I dug, the more I discovered the diversity of stir-frying and the creativity of using local ingredients in local cooking styles. The concept of fusion food that the modern chefs intend to create has indeed been invented and evolved naturally through the migration of the Chinese and the assimilation with the local culinary culture.[/text_block][/op_liveeditor_element]

[op_liveeditor_element data-style=””][text_block style=”undefined” align=”left”]The following is a compilation of various stir-fried recipes from different countries. This is not an exhaustive list, but I have included the most iconic ones. You may be familiar with some, and find some unexpected gems in others.
I am delighted that the humble stir-fried dish from my mother’s kitchen has spread beyond Asia. This can be seen in the example of ‘stir-fried pizza’ that has nothing to do with Chinese cooking, but the Italian cuisine.[/text_block][/op_liveeditor_element]
